Over-the-air updates enable machine manufacturers to continuously improve and update their software applications, and adapt them to new conditions, such as evolving regulations. With SYDEsup, STW offers a user-friendly application for transfering these updates to multiple controllers simultaneously
Software has the distinct advantage of being open to continuous development. Software based services and digital products can be optimized over time or adapted to changing boundary conditions. Since digitalization has found its way into construction and agriculture, there is also the possibility of optimizing and expanding software functions in these industries. Unlike typical networked office or factory infrastructure however, the machines used in these industries are often in inaccessible locations. Over-the-air updates (OTA updates), i.e. software updates via the mobile network, offer a practical solution.
When connected to the corresponding cloud infrastructure, with a TCG-4 communication module, ESX controllers with our openSYDE software are OTA-capable. Particularly practical: The openSYDE application SYDEsup can be used to automatically update multiple mobile controllers in parallel. This significantly reduces the maintenance effort in deploying a new update. Especially for machines in remote areas, OTA updates mean efficiency and sustainability with a reduction in travel and personnel expenses.
STW offers a seamlessly interlocking hardware and software system that makes it easy to keep machines up to date. SYDEsup is a command line tool installed by default on the STW communication modules of the TCG-4 family. The update data is provided as an openSYDE service update package that has been created using the openSYDE software package.
STW customers, and companies from the STW partner network, can also use SYDEsup to update STW control units using their compatible hardware. Updates can be made both over-the-air or directly on the machine, for example, via a USB interface incorporated in the machine’s HMI.
