openSYDE is a software suite developed by STW specifically to simplify the design and implementation of decentralized control systems. openSYDE saves time and cost in the implementation, set to work, maintenance and analysis of control systems for mobile machines. It provides a central common repository for system design and development data. With a drag and drop interface, and a library of predefined widgets, system layout is intuitive and user friendly. Especially for safety applications, openSYDE brings significant advantages and has been certified by the TUEV for functional safety. In combination with STW’s own CAN based safety protocol ECeS, openSYDE makes the design of safety relevant functions in distributed control systems significantly easier. openSYDE and ECeS are currently certified for use in applications up to SIL2/PLd level.
openSYDE supports the target application through all lifecycle phases. The software suite provides system definition, system configuration, maintenance and documentation in one centralized tool, ensuring consistency throughout the project lifecycle. All system relevant data is readily available in a coherent and consistent form. Redundant data storage and duplication is thereby avoided, as are unnecessary overheads associated with multiple development environments. With all system data centralized, safe user-friendly one-click system updates can be realized.
With an open source basis, there are no proprietary data formats, and adaptations and extensions are possible by third parties. Similarly, third party devices can be integrated into the openSYDE environment.
In combination with the automation platform Logi.CAD 3, control engineers have a highly efficient development and runtime environment without vendor lock-in. Open interfaces to other third party toolchains enable integration of requirements engineering, continuous integration and test environments for automated software integration tests.
